DARLENE: WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS FIRST AT FOUR A HOUSE FIRE ON THE CITY'S WEST SIDE LEAVES A DOZEN PETS DEAD. THE FIRE STARTED AROUND 1:30 THIS AFTERNOON… AND NO ONE WAS INSIDE THE HOME AT THE TIME. DARLENE: THANK YOU FOR JOINING US FOR FIRST AT FOUR, IM DARLENE HILL. DARLENE: NBC4'S DANIELLE AVITABLE IS LIVE OUTSIDE THE HOME ON BROOKFOREST DRIVE WITH MORE. DANIELLE: FIRE CREWS LEFT THE SCENE ABOUT AN HOUR AGO. IF WE CAN ZOOM INTO THIS AREA YOU CAN SEE THERE IS NOW A GAPING HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE HOME BY LOOKING AT THE ITEMS IT APPEARS THE FIRE WAS IN THE KITCHEN. DANIELLE: TAKE A LOOK AT THIS VIDEO FROM THE SCENE WHEN FIREFIGHTERS WERE HERE. BATTALION CHIEF STEVE MARTIN SAYS 11 DOGS WERE KILLED AND A CAT ALSO DIED MOST LIKELY FROM SMOKE INHALATION. HOWEVER NO PEOPLE WERE INSIDE THE HOME AT THE TIME. I SPOKE WITH THE HOMEOWNER AND HE SAYS HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW IT STARTED. A NEIGHBOR TELLS ME HE SAW SMOKE COMING OUT FROM THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE. CLINT WISINGER / NEIGHBOR "I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING THIS CLOSE BEFORE I WAS A LITTLE BIT ANXIOUS ABOUT IT"." DANIELLE: CHIEF MARTIN SAYS THE FIRE MOST LIKELY STARTED IN THE KITCHEN BUT THEY ARE STILL INVESTIGATING THE EXACT CAUSE.
